Commercial vehicles checks finds 659 violations
Wednesday, April 25, 2012
A recent drive by Troop F of the Missouri State Highway Patrol to inspect trucks, buses and other large vehicles resulted in 659 safety violations.
The special inspections were made in Callaway, Cole and Boone counties from April 9-13.
During the stepped-up spot inspections, 257 commercial vehicles were inspected that resulted in 659 violations. Fifty-four commercial vehicles and 11 drivers were placed out of service because of serious safety violations. The patrol issued 90 citations because of the safety violations.
The commercial vehicle inspections were financed through a federal grant from the Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program operated by the U.S. Department of Transportation. The grant program helps states reduce the number and severity of crashes and hazardous materials incidents involving commercial motor vehicles by detecting safety defects, driver deficiencies and unsafe motor carrier practices.
