Lady Jays lose goalkeeper, games
Finish sixth at Capital City Invitational
Sunday, April 22, 2012
With the Jefferson City Lady Jays preparing to play their final game in the Capital City Soccer Invitational on Saturday, it became apparent they would be without the services of their starting goalkeeper, Kelsey Vaught.
Jefferson City goalkeeper Becca Sturgis comes off of her line to make a play on a Lee’s Summit West ball during Saturday’s Capital City Soccer Invitational at the 179 Soccer Park.
So not only would Becca Sturgis be getting her first start in goal, she’d be doing so against a Lee’s Summit West squad that would go on to win the tournament.
While Sturgis made a number of nice saves against the Titans, Lee’s Summit West had too many weapons for Jefferson City and posted a 5-1 win.
In Saturday’s first game, the Lady Jays lost 1-0 to Springfield Glendale, the state’s sixth-ranked team in Class 3.
