Work at Columbia Airport Interchange project delayed

Wet weather this past weekend has caused Chester Bross Construction, the contractor for the U.S. 63 and Route H interchange project, to change its plans to close the crossover that connects Missouri 163 to northbound U.S. 63 in Boone County.

The original schedule called for the crossover to be closed for 10 days beginning Wednesday.

The new schedule calls for the crossover to be closed on Thursday, for one day only to allow the contractor to remove the existing pavement.

Rock will be placed on the driving surface to accommodate traffic.

Then on Monday, the crossover will be closed for a period of up to five days to allow the contractor to construct the two new southbound lanes of 63 and gain sufficient cure on the concrete to open the crossover to traffic.

During this construction period, the speed limits for both the northbound and southbound lanes of 63 will be reduced to 60 mph during working hours.

During the closure, motorists will need to use the next available crossover or overpass to the north and south to access the northbound lanes of 63.

The paving work is part of the improvements along 63 that include a new interchange at 63 and Route H, the addition of two new southbound lanes of 63 between the Bonne Femme Creek and Route H interchange, and two roundabouts on both ends of the Route H interchange ramps.

In addition, construction of the Turkey Creek and Route H bridges continues.

The entire project is scheduled for completion by Nov. 1.
