One person arrested after assault in JC

At about 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Jefferson City police were called to 2025 East McCarty Street, A-1 Small Engines, regarding an assault with a firearm that just occurred at that location.

Upon speaking to the victim, who had left the area after the incident occurred, he stated that he was in a verbal altercation with an employee at the business over a lawn mower. According to the victim, the situation escalated when the suspect, a 40 year old male Jefferson City resident, produced a handgun and fired two shots at the victim as he was trying to leave. The victim was not struck by the shots, nor was anyone injured during the incident.

Officers contacted the suspect, who was then arrested for 2nd Degree Assault with a weapon.

The name of the suspect was not released pending the filing of formal charges from the Cole County Prosecutor’s Office.

:) They bring a lawnmower, we break it more, charge them ransom for parts, and we bring a gun.

When is that dump going to be bulldozed and eliminated from from our town? It has been nothing but trouble for at least ten years. Looks like now there are people living in that old gas station? Doesn't Jefferson City have any occupancy codes or building codes that could be enforced? Can't the city make that dump clean up its yard?

Why does the city keep looking the other way as far as A-1 is concerned? Time to get the city attorney to do his job and get that mess either cleaned up or erradicated. It is a blight, and attractive nuicance, a health endangerment, an eyesore, and for sure helps to perpetuate the reputation of the East side of Jefferson City as being a redneck dump. I can only imagine what the effects to property values it has on the entire east side of Jefferson City too.

If the clown is shooting at people, that is a very good reason to arrest him. He is putting nearby residents, motorists, and pedestrians at risk.

What is wrong with City Hall to hassel others but totally ignore this place? Maybe News Tribune could do an article about the history of A-1 and what has been done if anything to clean it up, and to find out why the City keeps looking the other way?

Not sure exactly what type of fantasy world you live in but your posts make me laugh every time. EVERY town in the United States, has a part of it that's not in the best shape or one of the better places to live. Not everybody in this world is quite as fortunate as "JCLIFER". It would do you well to get out of this little bubble of Jefferson City for once and see the real world. It's not all fairy tales and perfection.

What? Are you saying that Jefferson City isn't the best little town in the whole wide world? Are you hinting that we don't have the best high school in the whole wide world either?

I bet this mess would long be gone if it were on the West side. However, since it is on the East side, that is OK because that is the area of town where we keep stuff like that...

Sorry, but stuff like this belongs out in the COUNTY.

Oh wow you really just don't get it. Just stay on the west side where everything is perfect.

And now you'd wish A-1 on the county, that's mean . . .

This establishment tried to collect serious money for work I did not authorize on a cheap lawn mower. I gave them a fair amount (not what they requested) and never returned. A-1 indeed.
