Nelson Dunn: Runge Youth Volunteer of the Year

One year ago, Nelson Dunn graduated from the volunteer training program at Runge Nature Center in Jefferson City.

This month, earning more than 250 hours since then, he was named the Youth Volunteer of the Year.

Every Wednesday, the junior at Jefferson City High School can be found helping with the animal care — feeding and cleaning cages and talking with the public.

During the summer, he was a mainstay for many of the center’s programs. Dunn learned to canoe ....
