Tigers nab conference, national honors

Tuesday was a big day for awards for the Missouri softball team.

The day started off with the Tigers winning both the Big 12 Conference’s weekly awards for just the fifth time ever, although it was the second time this season Missouri has recorded the feat.

Senior Ashley Fleming was selected as Player of the Week for the second time in her career, while junior Chelsea Thomas was named Pitcher of the Week for the third time this season and 11th time in her career.

The next honor bestowed on the Tigers on Tuesday was even bigger, as Fleming was selected as the USA Softball National Player of the Week by the American Softball Association.

It was the second time in her career Fleming was so honored, as she was recognized as a sophomore on May 4, 2010. It’s the fourth time a Tiger has received this honor.
