Ft Bragg soldier from Missouri dies in Afghanistan

FORT BRAGG, N.C. (AP) - The Pentagon says a North Carolina-based soldier from Missouri has been killed in Afghanistan.

The Defense Department said Monday that 24-year-old Staff Sgt. Tyler J. Smith of Licking, Mo., died April 3. Officials say Smith had been wounded when he was attacked with an improvised explosive device in Kandahar province.

Smith was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg.
