War memorial chronicled, given new home
Saturday, April 7, 2012
An American War Mothers’ memorial stone discarded in a vacant lot in western Jefferson City has been given historical context … and a new home.
“This memorial is truly an extraordinary find and of great historical significance to our community,” said Sen. Mike Kehoe, R-Jefferson City.
The memorial stone, which reads “Memory Row Dedicated by American War Mothers for Services 1917-1929” was initially steeped in mystery as there was little information as to its origin or previous location.
