Your Opinion: Changes would weaken Charter
Tuesday, April 3, 2012
Today the citizens of the City of Jefferson will again go to the polls. This time the purpose is to attempt to eviscerate the City Charter by means of Proposition B and C.
As an elected member of the Charter Commission, I worked alongside 12 other citizens meeting weekly for 12 months to craft this charter.
Now the question for the voters is do we uphold the Charter as written or do we weaken the role of the elected City Council by removing them from the hiring process.
The City Council is the voice of the people. The Charter is based on a city council, mayor, city administrator form of government not a city administrator and mayor form. Please read, carefully consider the facts and make an informed choice on April 3.
