Sunday's MLS Capsules

CARSON, Calif. (AP) - C.J. Sapong scored in the 47th minute to help Sporting Kansas City improve to 4-0 with a 1-0 win over Chivas USA on Sunday night.

After both teams struggled to create offense in the first half, Sporting KC got things going only 2 minutes into the second half. Graham Zusi's shot hit the cross bar, but he was able to scoop up the rebound and send it across the goalmouth to Sapong, who headed home his third goal of the season.

Sporting KC nearly doubled the lead in the 74th when Kei Kamara sent in a header that was stopped by a clutch palm save from Chivas' Dan Kennedy.

RAPIDS 2, FIRE 0

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (AP) - Omar Cummings scored in the 58th minute to help lead the Colorado Rapids to a 2-0 victory over the Chicago Fire.

The teams exchanged scoring chances for much of the game until Cummings found himself alone in the slot. Brian Mullan set up Cummings' second goal of the year. Kamani Hill added a goal in added time at the end of the game.

Matt Pickens earned his second shutout of the year and his 23rd as a member of the Rapids. He trails only Joe Cannon (25) for the career franchise lead.
