MSHSAA releases football districts

While the start of the high school football season is still five months away, teams got a better feel for what the upcoming season will entail.

The Missouri State High School Activities Association released new classifications and districts Saturday for the 2012-13 football seasons.

The districts coincide with a new playoff format more uniform with other sports.

Schools will play nine regular season games that will be used to seed a single elimination district tournament. The winner advances to the playoffs.

Classes 1-4 are made up of eight, eight-team districts. Class 5 features eight districts made up of five or six schools each. Class 6 has four eight-team districts.

Previously, teams were divided up into four-team districts. Following a round-robin of district games, the top two teams reached the playoffs.
