Fifth Ward residents will vote Tuesday on the only contested race in Jefferson City as four candidates look to win the seat vacated by Dave Griffith in January.
Candidates Bob Gilbert, Larry D. Henry Jr., J. Scott Stacey and Sharon Koechling-Burnett have been campaigning for the open council seat, each with their own set of strengths and areas of expertise that would be brought to the council.

The citizens have spoken several times that they do not want a huge convention center and hotel paid for with their tax dollars. They did allow the lodging tax increase to pass, but that is all they want to spend. Let the private investors put up a huge convention center if they want to.
We need our roads, sewers, and water mains repaired.
Memorial park grass was over a foot tall this weekend and full of weeds- wonder how many ticks are there?
Finish 179 bypass around the city to the new Wal-Mart intersection.
Clean up and landscape the mess along the expressway with the capitol building in the back ground..
Tear down all the boarded-up houses all over town. Crack down on the drug dealers and violent criminals running free. Why are people living in an old gas station business on East McCarty? That cannot be sanitary.
Spend our tax dollars for our needs, not for hotel and convention center owners to get richer off our tax dollars.
