Scholastic to add 90 new positions in Jefferson City

Scholastic announced today that it is expanding their Jefferson City packaging department and will be hiring approximately 90 additional full-time and seasonal employees over the next six months.

Scholastic currently employs up to 1500 workers in the Jefferson City area during their peak season of September and October.

These moves are part of a consolidation plan to centralize the packaging function into one facility and close the Moberly packaging center.

Current Moberly packaging employees have been invited to apply for new positions in Jefferson City.

"Improved inventory control processes, along with the discontinued operations of the Back To Basics Toys® business, have eliminated the need for a warehouse and packaging department in Moberly." said Faye Edwards, Vice President and General Manager of NSO Operations for Scholastic Inc.

With this move, all of Scholastic's operations in Moberly are gone.

In February, the company announced 40 new employees would be working at Scholastic in Jefferson City handling call center duties answering customer inquiries.

At that time the company said it would also expand its Neosho call center by hiring 80 additional employees.

With those moves, the company closed its Moberly call center, but at that time the packaging center in Moberly was to remain open.

The moves announced in February centralized call center functions into two facilities since the lease on the call center in Moberly ended April 29.

Hiring and training took place in August and this move required no expansion of the Jefferson City facilities.

Scholastic employees in Missouri answer more than 6 million customer calls each year and deliver 194 million books into the hands of children worldwide, officials said.
