Friday, September 30, 2011
The Osage County Sheriff’s Office reported this week an Osage County resident was asked to give out financial information as part of a phone scam.
The woman reported the caller claimed to be from Medicare and offered to get her a new card if she would provide her bank number and bank routing number.
The telephone number that registered on the victim’s caller I.D. was 1-999-999-2112.
The victim contacted her bank to advise them of the call and to make sure no account information had been accessed.
Anyone receiving a call like this should contact local law enforcement and never give out personal information over the telephone, officials said.
Osage County residents who receive a similar call should contact Chief Deputy Rob Relford at the Osage County Sheriff's Department at 573-897-3927.
