SYDNEY (AP) - Australia's competition regulator has approved a proposal that would allow Qantas Airways and American Airlines to more closely coordinate services on trans-Pacific flights.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission said Thursday that the agreement would not have any anticompetitive effects.
The two airlines already code share flights to dozens of destinations in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. Qantas has said the agreement would allow the airlines to further coordinate schedules, fares and marketing on those routes.
The airlines' proposal is also awaiting review by the U.S. Department of Transportation and the New Zealand Minister of Transport.
