Chamber takes consultants on tour of area

The past few days were jam packed with activities and tours of the area for four visitors to Jefferson City.

The Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Missouri CORE, hosted four site consultants this week, showing the city and surrounding areas in hopes the city will be recommended as a site for businesses and industries looking to expand or relocate.

Missy Bonnot, economic development director with the Chamber, said consultants from California, Chicago, Arizona and Nebraska arrived last weekend to tour the area.

Given the level of unemployment here there is certainly a large labor pool waiting for jobs to arrive.

Also important is that the labor force around here has very low expectations for pay and benefits. They don't require much to be satisfied, and they can be bent over backwards without squalking much.

As of 8/2011 per BLS.gov: National Unemployment Rate = 9.1 Missouri Unemployment Rate = 8.9 Jefferson City MSA Unemployment Rate = 7.3

Might be a good idea for these consultants to review the city codes, ordinances and past JC Council minutes regarding businesses.
