Crime surge equals mounting costs

When it comes time to extradite the Mexico couple accused of murdering a father and daughter near Auxvasse, Callaway County Sheriff Dennis Crane expects his office will be making the trip.

Ryan C. Coari, 28, and Jacie K. (Gagala) Coari, 27, both of Mexico, are being detained at Macomb County Jail in Mount Clemens, Mich., while they wait to see if local stolen vehicle charges will be dropped against them.

The Coaris are accused of slaying Michael Wieberg, 56, and Amanda Wieberg, 33, and stealing a U-Haul they drove to Michigan. The Wiebergs were found dead in Michael Wieberg's home near Auxvasse on Sept. 2.

As with the cost of the ongoing investigation into the homicides of the Wiebergs, the cost of extraditing the Coaris to face charges in Callaway County will fall to the sheriff's office. The office also has incurred many expenses recently with a rash of burglary/theft rings and the still unsolved homicide of Deborah Bates, of Millersburg.
