Your Opinion: Response to Smith on Christianity

Dear Editor:

I'm writing to respond to Tony Smith's anti-Christian rhetorical, absurd letter printed Sept. 20 in the News Tribune.

Apparently Smith must believe America was founded in the 1960s. If this is not so, how on earth was America able to become the world leader up to that point as a "theocratic" nation. This must be the case as every president to this date, I believe, to be Christian. I do have doubts about Obama's faith however, since he seems more inclined to support Muslim nations than Israel.

Smith chastises Rick Perry for his support of execution of murderers and Ron Paul for his belief that churches should replace the state in welfare matters. I would think even Smith should know that both candidates opinions were actually the way it was in this country before the 1960s liberal socialist Democrats took charge of our society and started the decay of morality and disrespect by the world that exists today.

I wonder why Smith never writes a similar letter warning of an Islamic "theocracy" when it is a real threat? Is it because there could be dire consequences? Could it be that Christians are apathetic and reluctant to actively defend and promote their faith be the reason? Probably.

It is unimaginable that any educated individual in this country can actually believe the distorted view Smith has about Christianity and our American history. Of course the liberal leftist Democrats have taken control of our schools via the teachers' union resulting in a revision and teaching of American history to support their leftist ideology.

I wish to thank the News Tribune for their coverage of the Tea Party demonstration on Sept 17. I and my wife attended and it was an extremely uplifting experience to hear some real Christian patriots. Both gatherings were started with a prayer and the pledge to the flag. The only disappointing thing was the turnout of only 150 people. I would have hoped that there would have been more folks in Jefferson City who would have turned out to support these organizations and their goals. The Tea Party organizations are the best and possibly the last hope for this country to return to a proud patriotic nation based on Christian principles as the founding fathers intended.

A final word to Mr. Smith. We live in a representative republic, not a democracy!
