Tigers, hot dogs, bunnies and even a pencil could be seen walking around Old Munichburg on Saturday as roughly 60 dachshunds took part in the dachshund derby and costume contest.

The costume contest and races, part of Old Munichburg's Oktoberfest celebration, were held by the Jefferson City Animal Shelter with Mayor Eric Struemph as the emcee for the afternoon festivities.

Hundreds of people crowded around to see the costumed dogs make their appearance before the judges, who ended up needing audience assistance in ranking the top four costumes.
