According to the proposal, the project would include construction of two roundabouts, one at the intersection of Jefferson Street and Stadium Boulevard, and one at the intersection of Christy Drive and Stadium Boulevard.

Apparently the city fails to understand the impact of putting round-abouts on the ambulance service which crosses those intersections several times a day, sometimes several times per hour. Does a sick or injured patient in the back of an ambulance really want to be spun around in circles on the way to Cap Region? And where exactly will cars pull over to on a round-about to yield the right-of-way to an emergency vehicle? The lack of common sense continues to astonish me, several times a day. Seriously, rethink this debacle before you move one piece of dirt.

Jeff City Hall has ROUNDABOUT MADNESS!!!

Okay. I drive that almost EVERY DAY and I can't see ANY reason for a roundabout at either of those locations. The stoplights work just fine. CITY - QUIT MESSING AROUD WITH THINGS THAT WORK AND WORRY ABOUT FIXING THE THINGS THAT DON'T!

I have no problems with the roundabout at Stadium and Lafayette. I even think the one on Tanner Bridge was an improvement. But the other two on stadium were just useless and these two new ones - what possible good can they do?

They're quieter. They conserve fuel. They prevent t-bone and head-on wrecks, saving money and blood. They can be wide enough for emergency traffic if designed well (better, we hope, than the Stadium west versions). The rest of the world relys heavily on circles because they work; we should have more.

How on earth are they quieter? Lights make noise I don't know about? I suppose there may be some small fuel savings - assuming of course people learn how to drive on them and quit STOPPING when there's no other cars in the circle! Really, I'd say the number of people I've honked at stopped at one for no reason does away with any "noise savings". I can understand the head-on and t-bone wrecks - but when was the last time there was an accident at either of those intersections? I have no problem with roundabout where they are needed, but those intersections simply don't need them. The ONLY up side I can see is that the light on Christy and Stadium sometimes seems to take forever when you want to make a left, especially later in the evening. So I guess I'll get my pizza 5 minutes faster if don't have to sit and wait for the light.

Multiply your five minutes by the daily traffic count. When was the last time there was an accident at Christi & Stadium? Usually about an hour ago. The lights don't make noise, braking and accelerating make noise, and eat gas. Yes, people don't always use them correctly, but they usually do and more will with time.

If noise is a concern, why do they have those crazy stop lights on Country Club Drive between 179 and Dead Lobster? Neither of those intersections have enough cross-traffic to warrant a stop sign, but yet there is a wasteful 4-way stop at each of them.

Scenic Drive also has a crazy 4-way stop sign that is not needed. Why does the City speak out of both sides of its mouth about saving money and reducing traffic noise?

They have stop signs there to discourage people from using that route. That's a residential area, NOT a through street.

Sorry bluesfan,,but a street is a street. What the upity neighbors want is nobody driving on their street while they drive on every other street. If it isn't a "thru" street,,then dead-end one end of it,,oh that's right,,the people that live there want to have easy access to all directions.

Since Holts Summit wants more CAMPO money, why not build a bunch of roundabouts over there?

Cuz, a long time ago, when people actually went to the mall, the money living along Country Club Dr. didn't want the traffic. They conned the city into putting up stop signs to discourage shoppers form using 'their' street.. Used to be 4 stop signs.

THe full article states that the full project is gonna cost $3M ! Probably could fix a few streets with that kinda cash. Oh well a fool and his money.... Doesn't everyone just marvel at the double roundabouts on West Stadium? What a fine piece of engineering that was.

JMO 1 year, 8 months ago

This exactly my point. There are streets and sidewalks in this town that need serious repairs and resurfacing. Why on earth does it make sense to spend $3M on two intersections that work just fine right now instead of repairing things that are actually broken?

I'd rather drive through a roundabout than sit at a stop light any day. No waiting, just drive right through, pay attention and they are a brilliant way to keep traffic flowing.

Unless you get one of those that stop when there's no traffic, or better yet stop while in the circle to let someone in.

Look at East Walmart and other roundabouts. There are weeds and dead plants all over them. They are an eyesore. If they are not going to provide the upkeep then just concrete the whole thing!!!

Code Enforcement needs to look at these. Rest of us would have gotten a sign planted in our yards telling us to cut the weeds.
