Your Opinion: Sales tax proposal called 'overreach'

Dear Editor:

Has the Transformation Committee lost its marbles? Another half-cent sales tax for 10 years this time. Are they living in la-la land or what? I think Obama-mindedness has entered their periphery. The Chamber and City Council sounds like an offshoot of Obama world.

In the Sept. 15 edition of the newspaper, on the front page, it read "Chamber opts for half-cent sales tax for 10 years." Buried on page A4 it read "cautious consumers pull back on retail spending." Besides which, in their dream world, whatever happens in the city, affects us in the county too. And, we don't even get to vote on city matters. Ha!

Has any one of the so-called transformation commitees/council looked at the economy lately? i.e. unemployment, underemployment, groceries, gas, etc. The middle class are being hit left, right and center on taxes, taxes, and more taxes. And now, it's the excitement of the powers that be wanting more, to fulfill their overpowering need to say "look what we're doing."

It's time we the people stand up and say no-no-no.

I just wished I lived in the city for once in my life. I'd speak up and speak out about this idiotic stuff! It is once again an overreach of the government. Enough is really enough.
