Hands worn by steel wool and harsh chemicals, Anita Lael never second-guessed why she was stripping layers of paint and varnish from her front door.
With each layer removed, she could see more of the wood underneath the entry to the Moreau Drive bungalow.
Then, she discovered an unexpected treasure under Venetian blinds she hadn't removed - the original beveled glass window.
The now natural wood door hangs in the middle of her broad front porch on the corner lot at Lee Street. Lael and her husband, Steve, have been cleaning and improving the home since they bought it in February 2010.
The Historic City of Jefferson noticed the work in a neighborhood targeted for renewal and possibly nomination to the National Register of Historic Places.
