The Lincoln Blue Tigers dropped a 73-7 decision Saturday afternoon to the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats at Dwight T. Reed Stadium.
Lincoln’s lone touchdown came on a 90-yard kickoff return by Fred Fuller in the third quarter.

LU......Peeeeee Uuuuuu what a stinker. At least ya didn't have to travel in order to get a beaten like that. Oh well fellas...pick yourselves up and let's go at it again. Scores like this indicate not only bad playing...but bad "Coaching" as well. Hey "MIKE JONES" what's up? Guess all that fame and fortune don't always mean you'll be a good Coach does it? I'm, not given up on ya, but the word on the streets is that MIKE JOOONES thinks he's a rock star type and doesn't care about anything else but himself as he reminds everyone of his famous Goal-Line tackle. To that I say so what...that was then and this is now and right now the LU Team and the Coaching Staff stink. Mike I'm suggesting that you forget about your past accolades and concentrate on the now...start by treating the LU players like what they are.......young men in need of some guidance towards academic success. They are not NFL talent or Championship caliber at least not yet. If they were they would not be playing at LU. Mike...help make them Champions in the classroom and in the community first. Get your player retention and graduation rate up. Win there first and then the wins between the chalk will follow. Or you can keep doing it your way.......and to that I'll quote the famous one Charles Brown of Peanuts fame and say "AGGGGHHHHHHH....DRATS "

Dear WOW, I was extremely disappointed to read your anonymous post regarding the Lincoln Football program and coaches. While I was disappointed, I was not surprised. It is difficult to understand the negative tone and comments, given that Lincoln is only 3 games into the new coaching staff and a mere 6 months of recruiting, and that Lincoln won it’s first home opener in decades. If WOW truly cared about the Lincoln football players, as stated – if you cared enough to support them and get involved, you would realize that every point you outlined, could not be further from the truth. I understand how easy it is be an armchair quarterback or criticize coaches or the play calls, but the personal attacks on the coaching staff would suggest a different motive, and suggests to the players you are so concerned about - a blatant lack of respect for their coaches, their mentors and their leaders. Spend 5 minutes of your time involved with the players from prior years, their parents or Coach Mike, and you would realize that your comments could not have been more off center. For the first time in a very long time Lincoln has a unique opportunity with coaches that have the BEST interest of these young men at the forefront of the program. The changes from prior years are evident and broad reaching already. Coach Mike Jones brought an excellent and energized coaching staff to our city and our University, when clearly there were obviously greater monetary options available to them throughout the country. They deserve our support and it borders on ignorance to be as critical as you are at this point in their tenure and their first season. I am amazed and dismayed that the St. Louis Post Dispatch, rather than our local Jefferson City paper, ran a detailed article about the changes occurring in Jefferson City under Head Coach Mike Jones, and Coaches Mark Frederick, Tony VanZant, Damon Frenchers, Anthony Broadnax, Bryant Lee and others - the discipline that is being instilled in the players on the team, the focus on academics that exist, the change in the dress code on campus Thursdays, taking these kids to local churches on Sunday, and being involved in their lives beyond the goal posts are things that go unmentioned by any of the coaches. As if this is how they silently choose to lead and live their lives – and so it is exceptionally appalling to read your comments. Continued...

My hope is that you channel your concern into support. Support is showing up for the games, raising much needed funds for equipment, volunteering to work tailgates – letting these young men know that this community is behind them and that because we have long waited for a successful football program, in a town that loves it’s football – you are doing what you can to help. To that end, I have put my money and time where my mouth is. I had the wonderful opportunity to be asked to get involved by several community leaders to join and support a new booster club – The Blue Tiger Quarterback Club. This summer we showed our support for the football program and Lincoln University, by providing summer employment to players. The kids made an impact in our office – and the caliber of these young men made me proud to have them represent our city as players for OUR University. Shame on you for reprimanding the coaching staff for not focusing on grades and graduation rates and retention rates, surely you are not suggesting that the new coaching staff could in any way affect any of the issues you raise given they were not hired until February of this year. The coaches took time away from the practice fields to attend a back to school education program we hosted for our summer college students – extoling the values of education beyond the sports arena. You make reference to Coach Jones dwelling in his NFL star status – something that in our experience could not be further from the truth. He is humble, almost to a fault – and although as you point out, being a great player does not always translate to a great coach – I believe you cannot begin to make that judgment after 3 games – two of which were against nationally ranked teams. AND why would you take issue or begrudge this program capitalizing on any attention or favors Coach Jones might draw given his reputation and connections. Lincoln deserves and needs a break like this. This community needs a successful university. A successful university needs successful and vibrant sports program. A vibrant sports program needs a successful football team. But this program needs financial support and community spirit. So, if as you portray – your concern is for the well -being of these Lincoln players – get involved in their lives. Take 5 minutes to find out what amazing changes are underway and taking place. It is exciting and new. GET INVOLVED. You quoted Charlie Brown – I choose to quote the late great Vince Lombardi – Football is like life – it requires perseverance, self-denial, hard work, sacrifice, dedication and respect for authority.

Ginav...because of the kinship I have with LU I've often defended this very important and distinguished HBCU. Oh there are some areas where things can be and will be improved upon, but unless a person is a straight "LU Hater"...the University, the students, athletes and faculty are alright and even though part of my prior comments were negative. I do believe there was some positive points addressed as well. None the less, everything I mentioned was and is based on my association with LU and hearing accounts from parents of football player's & player's who up until this year were part of the LU football team. These players left because to put it bluntly, they and their parents felt the LU Coaching Staff (ie Mr. Jones) was more focused on themselves than the "Student Athlete". My prior comment read "but the word on the street is that MIKE JOOONES thinks he's a rock star type and doesn't care about anything else but himself, but I'm not giving up on ya". Which in my mind indicates that even though I've heard some negative things being said about the LU Coaches. I'm also willing to give everyone a chance and I have always supported the academic purpose of Lincoln University first and then the athletic objectives second.... FYI, I'm not the Quarterback, Tailgate, Fraternity, Sorority Club, type...so I'll decline your offer to get involved in that manner, but I'm also no "LU Hater" and I will continue to assist these young men and women and LU as best I can. I guess we want the same thing, but I'm a bit more demanding than you and here is why. Based on the stats of the last three games...the Blue Tigers have yet to play a decent game of College Football. Even the game they won...glad they did, but even that game stunk. A competitive football team doesn't give up that much yardage or points in a half and somehow manage a win only to give up almost 150 points in the following to games. All that means is the first team they played is worse than LU...which is a positive.....but it still indicates the LU Football Team stinks. I love em dearly, but the LU Blue Tigers are the KC Royals of College Football. We love em....but again " right now the LU Team and the Coaching Staff stink. Mike I'm suggesting that you forget about your past accolades and concentrate on the now...start by treating the LU players like what they are.......young men in need of some guidance towards academic success.
