When state representatives return to Jefferson City next Wednesday for more special session work, three state Senate-passed bills will be waiting for them.
But House Speaker Steve Tilley, R-Perryville, said the Missouri House will change the Senate's version of the "Jobs" bill that was intended to be the centerpiece of the special session.
Senators spent more than four hours debating and changing the bill Tuesday, cutting its $300 million in tax credits targeted at warehouse developers who would provide spaces for international cargo shipments at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport, while leaving $60 million in credits for the "freight-forwarders," companies that act like travel agents to arrange the pick-up and shipment of products to overseas markets.
Then, after endorsing the bill on a voice vote Tuesday night, the Senate spent another 85 minutes Wednesday, discussing the bill and its plusses and minuses before finally approving it late Wednesday morning by a 26-8 margin.
