Plan could jeopardize KC-to-St. Louis train

ST. LOUIS (AP) - A U.S. House transportation budget plan could jeopardize St. Louis-to-Kansas City Amtrak service.

KMOX Radio (http://cbsloc.al/qWMade ) reports that the House Appropriations Subcommittee is proposing elimination of federal funding to Amtrak for operating costs of state-supported trains. That would include trains that run from St. Louis to Kansas City and three of the five trains between St. Louis and Chicago.

Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari says that if passed, the plan would cut off federal funding on Oct. 1. He says ridership is up on the routes from St. Louis to both cities, and federal funding is in place for track improvements.
