Local man charged in domestic assault case

A Jefferson City man is being held in the Cole County Jail after formal charges were filed Thursday in a felonious restraint and domestic assault case.

According to court documents, Thomas Gibler, 46, of 2307 Meadowlark Lane, was involved in an argument with a female at his address Wednesday.

The female, whose name was redacted from a Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement, was thrown to the floor by Gibler and he began to strangle her by placing his hands around her neck.

Gibler repeatedly pounded the victim's head on the ground and caused several bruises and cuts to her body.

The victim broke away from Gibler, who chased her after she fled from the residence. He dragged her back into the residence by her hair. In doing so, the victim lost several large amounts of hair.

Gibler also ripped the victim's shirt off and cut her upper torso with his fingernails.

Gibler made threats that he would use a wine bottle against the victim as a weapon.

The statement shows that Gibler has a violent criminal history with a conviction for unlawful use of a weapon, second-degree assault and third-degree assault.
