CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) - The increasing deer population in the southeast Missouri town of Cape Girardeau has city officials taking another look at an urban deer hunt.
The Southeast Missourian (http://bit.ly/pFGsRe) reports that city council member John Voss on Tuesday asked the council to revisit the idea of a highly restricted program allowing bow hunting of does during the regular deer season.
Voss has raised the idea before. He decided to renew his request after hearing complaints from constituents about deer destroying landscapes and causing accidents.
City Manager Scott Meyer says the city received 76 deer-related calls in 2010 - including 47 to pick up dead deer and 38 about collisions.
Council members directed city staff to look into the matter.
