Driver charged after fatality accident

Maries County Prosecutor Terry Daley Schwartze filed involuntary manslaughter and second-degree assault charges Friday against a Crocker man, following Thursday’s fatal two-vehicle accident south of Meta.
The case information posted on the state courts’ Case.net Internet service indicates John D. Mazurek, 24, Crocker, had a blood-alcohol content of at least .18 percent — more than twice the legal limit in Missouri.
A Meta woman was killed and two others injured in that noon accident on Missouri 133, two miles south of Meta.
The Highway Patrol reported Mazurek’s northbound, 2001 Buick Century crossed the center line and struck a 2009 Kia Optima head-on.
The driver of that southbound vehicle, Wilberta C. Randolph, 57, Meta, was pronounced dead at the scene by Maries County Coroner Dave Martin.
Randolph’s passenger, Helen K. Wieberg, 85, Jefferson City, was taken to University Hospital in Columbia, where she was listed Friday in good condition.
Mazurek, who was not wearing a seat belt, refused treatment at the scene.
The Patrol said Randolph and Wieberg were wearing seat belts.
