Group urges Hartzler to vote against cuts

About two dozen members of a nonprofit community organization on Thursday urged U.S. Rep. Vicky Hartzler to vote against any cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid as ways to save money in the federal budget.

The group Grass Roots Organizing, or GRO, delivered more than 1,500 postcards to Hartzler's Jefferson City office, 2409 Hyde Park Road.

They said the cards were signed by residents at several county fairs and last month's state fair in Sedalia, asking to save these programs for future generations.

"This is a non-partisan issue," said GRO executive director Robin Acree, who reported they also are delivering postcards to all other U.S. representatives' offices in Missouri, and to the offices of U.S. Sens. Claire McCaskill and Roy Blunt.
