Missouri 94 bridge reopens near Mokane

A traffic bottleneck in the Mokane area ended late last week when the Auxvasse Creek Bridge on Missouri 94 just east of Mokane reopened to traffic.

Traffic along Missouri 94 was closed to traffic at the bridge three miles east of Mokane on Sept. 19 and detoured along Route C and Route CC to Route O.

It was a long detour for students riding school buses to and from South Callaway Schools at Mokane.

The detour caused excessive traffic on nearby county roads by people seeking shorter trips. Most local residents know shortcuts and used graveled county roads. Strangers often became lost seeking shorter detours along gravel roads.

At the same time, about 1,000 extra workers were hired for current nuclear reactor refueling and maintenance at the nearby Callaway Energy Center. That also increased traffic along county gravel roads.
