JC police break up fighting in street

Police were dispatched to a neighborhood in eastern Jefferson City early Sunday after gunshots reportedly were fired.

When officers arrived in the area of Dunklin and Locust streets around 1:15 a.m., they discovered what they described as a "large disturbance" involving fighting in the street. The crowd began to disperse as police arrived.

One person was taken into custody at the scene. No serious injuries were reported initially, but police called an ambulance to the area around 2 a.m. to respond to a man who needed medical attention for unknown reasons.
