Your Opinion: Buy American products

Dear Editor:

Have you ever bought an item from the store and noticed it was from China, Vietnam or Mexico? To some people it would be a surprise but in reality it's quite common. Our counrty is in great debt and we're falling fast. Most people think it's the government's job to handle all of it by themselves. Believe it or not the government's choices aren't the only thing putting us in bankruptcy. Many of the products we buy daily aren't even made in America. Some examples of products according to Yahoo, iconic products that aren't made in America, are Rawlings baseballs, Etch a Sketch, the Fisher Price and Barbie line and Dell computers. Now these are just some of the many popular items Americans buy. Some other examples are televisions, minivans, NBA uniforms and Revelon eye shadow. It amazes me just how many products and items we use every day aren't even American.

Cell phones are not even made in America. Almost every person over 13 years old in America and all that money is just going to foreign countries that we may or may not be in war with. We send thousands of men and women who have families over to fight a war in which we are supplying the foreign economy with lots of money if that's not bad enough, according to Fox News, 1.5 percent of American flags in the market aren't made in America. Also, according to an interview on Fox News, 96 percent of clothing we buy is imported from overseas, Nike and Sketcher shoes are imported from either India or China and JC Penney is an American-made store that sells a mix of American and foreign made products.

Fox News also said if Americans spent 1 percent more on American-made products it would add 18 cents a day, $64 per year and 200,000 more jobs. From that one sentence I think the solution is made clear. I think Amerians should start purchasing items made in America instead of other countries. Ask yourself how great it would feel for all the high prices and taxes to go down all because you bought the American grands instead of the foreign countries' items.

This is why I think we need to buy more American-made products.
