PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Andrew Ladd scored the game-winner with 1:06 remaining on a one-timer from close range to lift the Winnipeg Jets to a wild 9-8 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday night.
Fifteen players scored in the wide-open game in which both clubs set season highs for goals scored and goals allowed, and the Jets tied a franchise record for goals in a game.
Philadelphia's Danny Briere and James van Riemsdyk were the only multiple goal scorers with two apiece. Kimmo Timonen had four assists and Scott Hartnell added a goal and assist. Claude Giroux and Max Talbot also scored for Flyers.
Nik Antropov and Tanner Glass each had a goal and two assists for the Jets. Evander Kane and Alex Burmistrov each added a goal and an assist and Blake Wheeler had three assists for Winnipeg.
Maple Leafs 4, Rangers 2
NEW YORK (AP) - Joffrey Lupul and Clarke MacArthur scored 4:22 apart in the third period as the Maple Leafs broke open a tie game and spoiled the Rangers' long-awaited return to renovated Madison Square Garden.
Lupul scored off a rebound in a scrum in front of Henrik Lundqvist to make it 2-1 with his fifth of the season, and MacArthur made it a two-goal edge with his first - firing a shot from the left circle during a 2-on-1 break that eluded Lundqvist's leg at 6:33.
Matthew Lombardi scored his first in the second period, and Mike Brown made it 4-1 in the third.
Dan Girardi scored in the first, and Michael Del Zotto got it to 4-2 with 4:34 remaining for the Rangers, who went 3-2-2 on a season-starting road trip because of the work being done at their home rink.
Oilers 2, Capitals 1
EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) - Jordan Eberle had a goal and an assist and Nikolai Khabibulin made 34 saves and the Oilers handed the Capitals their first loss of the season.
Taylor Hall also scored for the Oilers, who have won three in a row.
Karl Alzner scored for the Capitals, who lost for the first time this season after a 7-0 start.
The Capitals were one of just 10 teams in NHL history to start a season 7-0.
The Capitals went up 1-0 at 5:36 of the first period as Alzner did a good job to keep a puck in at the point and then wound up and blew a shot past Khabibulin.
Edmonton came close to tying it up on a similar play by Cam Barker, but his shot hit the post behind Capitals starter Tomas Vokoun.
Penguins 3, Islanders 2, SO
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Evgeni Malkin's shootout goal capped a rally from a two-goal deficit in the third period and the Penguins extended their winning streak to five with a victory over the Islanders.
Pittsburgh's second shooter of the shootout, Malkin walked in against Rick DiPietro - inserted into the game to relieve Evgeni Nabokov when the shootout began - made multiple dekes in close and slid the puck under a sprawling DiPietro with his backhand.
Chris Kunitz and James Neal scored 2:46 apart early in the third period less than a minute after Matt Martin had given the Islanders a 2-0 lead.
Frans Nielsen had a first-period goal for New York, which has lost four in a row overall and hasn't won in Pittsburgh in almost four years.
Sabres 4, Blue Jackets 2
BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Rookie goalie Jhonas Enroth made 41 saves, Jason Pominville had two goals and an assist, and the Sabres sent the sliding Blue Jackets to another defeat.
Brad Boyes had a goal and assist, Patrick Kaleta snapped a third-period tie, and Thomas Vanek added three assists for the Sabres (6-3-0), who won for the first time in three games played in Buffalo by snapping a two-game losing streak.
Enroth has won both of his starts this season, and improved to 11-3-2 since making his NHL debut in 2010.
He was steady and sharp throughout, especially in the first two periods when the Sabres were outshot by a 33-19 margin.
Canadiens 2, Bruins 1
BOSTON (AP) - Tomas Plekanec put one in each net, making up for an own goal by scoring the tiebreaker with 9:14 remaining to give the Canadiens a victory over the Bruins.
It was the teams' first meeting since a seven-game series in the first round of the playoffs that Boston won en route to its sixth Stanley Cup championship.
All of the old animosity was still there, with Brad Marchand and P.K. Subban the latest to brawl in an Original Six rivalry that's nearly a century old.
Carey Price stopped 29 shots for Montreal, which entered the night tied for last with Boston in the Northeast Division.
Tim Thomas made 33 saves for the defending Stanley Cup champions, who have lost three of their past four games.
Senators 4, Panthers 3
OTTAWA (AP) - Nick Foligno scored with 2.5 seconds left in the third period and the Senators extended their winning streak to four games with a victory over the Panthers.
Foligno put away a rebound of Daniel Alfredsson's slap shot for the winner after Florida's Kris Versteeg scored with 47.1 seconds left to tie it at 3.
Colin Greening scored at 17:53 to put Ottawa up 3-2, setting the stage for the wild finish. Greening beat Jacob Markstrom with a wrist shot into the right side of the net with 2:07 left as Ottawa went on to even its record at 5-5.
Craig Anderson made 22 saves, and Daniel Alfredsson and Stephane Da Costa scored in the second period for Ottawa, which erased two one-goal deficits.
Ducks 3, Wild 2
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf each had a power-play goal and an assist, and Teemu Selanne totaled three assists to help the Ducks hold on to beat the Wild and snap a three-game winless streak.
Bobby Ryan scored, too, and Jonas Hiller made 23 saves, giving the Ducks a sparkling night of production from their stars on the second stop on their seven-game road tour.
Jared Spurgeon and Matt Cullen scored to give the Wild's sagging power play a lift, but Cullen's goal on a deflection of Mikko Koivu's shot came with 6:06 remaining in the game with the Wild trailing by two - too little too late.
Predators 5, Lightning 3
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Mike Fisher scored two goals and added an assist to lead the Predators to a victory over the Lightning.
Sergei Kostitsyn, Patric Hornqvist, and Nick Spaling also scored for Nashville. Steven Stamkos had two goals and Teddy Purcell had one for the Lightning.
The victory gave the Predators their first home win of the season in their fourth attempt. Tampa Bay saw its three-game winning streak end.
Pekka Rinne, who has started every game in goal for Nashville this season, made 29 saves to record his fourth victory of the season and 99th of his career.
Fisher appeared in just his second game of the season, as recovery from offseason shoulder surgery caused him to miss Nashville's first seven contests.
Coyotes 5, Devils 3
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Ray Whitney had two goals and an assist, helping the Coyotes bounce back from a disheartening loss with a win over the Devils.
The Coyotes were frustrated two nights earlier after giving up a late goal to Dallas, but Whitney wouldn't allow another letdown.
He scored in the second period and gave Phoenix a two-goal lead in the third by drawing New Jersey's defense to the middle, the flipping it to Martin Hanzal just outside the crease. Whitney put it out of reach after that, squeezing a shot between Johan Hedberg's pads on a 2-on-1 with Hanzal.
Zach Parise, Mark Fayne and Nick Palmieri each scored for New Jersey.
Kings 5, Stars 3
DALLAS (AP) - Slava Voynov scored his first two NHL goals, including the go-ahead tally with 6:52 remaining, and the Kings handed the Stars their first home loss of the season.
With the game tied at 3, Voynov took a shot from the right point that got past screened goaltender Kari Lehtonen.
Jonathan Quick's shutout streak ended at 202 minutes, 11 seconds for Los Angeles.
Scott Parse and Justin Williams also scored for the Kings, who improved to 3-0-1 on the road this season.
Dustin Brown had an empty-netter with 26.3 seconds left and added two assists for the Kings.
Michael Ryder and Eric Nystrom notched third-period goals as Dallas came back from a 3-1 deficit.
