Moberly seeking new group for sweetener factory

MOBERLY, Mo. (AP) - Officials in the Missouri city of Moberly are again looking for someone new to take over the partially built facility of an artificial sweetener company that had been offered state and local incentives.

After Mamtek U.S. Inc. missed a payment to Moberly for its $39 million bond issuance, the city signed an agreement in September with Mamtek's former CEO to take over the project under a new company called American Sucralose.

But The Moberly Monitor-Index reports (http://bit.ly/vT5tr3 ) that American Sucralose also has failed to meet its payments to the city.

The chairman of Moberly's industrial development authority says it is now in discussions with other groups to take over the sweetener factory.
