Jefferson City and Cole County officials broke ground Thursday to mark the start of construction on the East McCarty Street project.

David Bange, engineering division director, said the project - which will include a three-lane roadway, new curbs and gutters, new sidewalks and a new signal at Eastland and McCarty Street - is expected to be completed by the end of November 2012. The roadwork begins at the intersection of St. Louis Road and East McCarty Street near Daisy Delight restaurant.

"Generally speaking, there's going to be work progressing through the winter, but the road isn't going to be closed all the time," Bange said. "And while that's happening, essentially, St. Louis Road is going to serve as the detour route."
