Corps: No spring rise on river next year

After this year's record flooding along the Missouri River, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will not conduct a spring rise next year on the river.

Members of the public said that decision should be made permanent after the announcement at a public meeting in Jefferson City to talk about the Corps' annual operating plan.

Before making presentations Thursday night, Jody Farhat, chief of the Missouri River Water Management Division, said she and her staff expressed their heartfelt sympathy over the damage that occurred from the floods.

Brig. Gen. John McMahon, Northwestern Division commander for the Corps, said earlier meetings have generated much passion from those affected by flooding.
