Cole County WIC program contract renewed

The Cole County Health Department has renewed its contract for 2012 with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services to continue to provide WIC (the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children) services.
Under the terms of the contract, the Cole County WIC program may serve 1,752 persons eligible for WIC every month.
WIC provides, at no cost, to eligible people: healthy food, nutrition and breastfeeding education, and referrals to other health programs. To be eligible for the program, people must be: pregnant, breastfeeding or postpartum women; and infants and children under the age of 5. Participants must meet income guidelines.

Another welfare program that rewards women for getting pregnant. Hurray for the baby-daddies too.

Oh yeah! Women everywhere are running out to get pregnant so they get free whole wheat bread, fresh fruit and eggs. Some reward.
WIC is a USDA federally funded program providing supplemental foods designed to meet the special nutritional needs of low-income pregnant, breastfeeding, non-breastfeeding postpartum women, infants and children up to five years of age who are at nutritional risk. It also provides healthcare referrals, nutrition education, and breastfeeding assistance. Nutrition education classes are required of participants. It's been around since the early 70's and is one of the best managed and most cost effective programs out there.
