WASHINGTON (AP) - Mike Green had two goals and two assists, Matthieu Perreault added two goals, and the Washington Capitals routed the Detroit Red Wings 7-1 on Saturday night in a matchup of the NHL's last remaining unbeaten teams.
It was only the second time in NHL history that two teams with records of at least 5-0 had faced off. The other occurred Oct. 23, 1986, when the 7-0 Pittsburgh Penguins lost to the 5-0 Flyers in Philadelphia.
Marcus Johansson, Joel Ward and Nicklas Backstrom also scored for Washington, which is a team-best 7-0. Alex Ovechkin and Matt Hendricks had two assists each.
Niklas Kronwall had the lone goal for Detroit, which was trying to open 6-0 for the first time since the 1972-73 season. Red Wings defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom had an assist as he played in his 1,500th career game. He is the 14th NHL player to reach that milestone.
Tomas Vokoun made 32 saves for his sixth straight victory.
Sharks 4, Bruins 2
BOSTON (AP) - Joe Thornton returned to Boston in his 1,001st NHL game for a video tribute and an early assist as San Jose beat the defending Stanley Cup champion Bruins.
Benn Ferriero broke a third-period tie with 11:12 left, and Anti Niemi stopped 37 shots for the Sharks, who have won consecutive games for the first time this season.
Milan Lucic scored for Boston, then assisted on Tyler Seguin's game-tying goal just 29 seconds later as the Bruins rallied to tie it in the third period. But Ferriero, a Boston native who played at Boston College and in the minors in nearby Worcester, slammed in a rebound for the game-winner.
Patrick Marleau scored an empty-netter with 4.8 seconds left.
Reigning Vezina and Conn Smythe Trophy winner Tim Thomas made 26 saves for the Bruins, who are 2-4 at home as they attempt to defend their NHL title. They have scored four goals total in the four losses.
Penguins 4, Devils 1
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Jordan Staal scored twice to give him 100 NHL goals, James Neal added his league-leading eighth of the season, and Pittsburgh won its third consecutive game by topping New Jersey.
Staal scored for the fourth and fifth times this season to give him 100 goals less than six weeks after his 23rd birthday. His second of the game came 70 seconds after Pittsburgh's Chris Kunitz broke a 1-1 tie with a power-play goal early in the third period.
Marc-Andre Fleury made 23 saves for the Penguins, who were again without Evgeni Malkin (knee) but welcomed back Kris Letang.
New Jersey's Patrik Elias scored a short-handed goal early in the third to tie the game, but Kunitz restored Pittsburgh's lead 1:20 later.
All four of the Penguins' goals beat former Penguins goalie Johan Hedberg high and to his glove side.
Blues 4, Flyers 2
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Kent Huskins and T.J Oshie scored early goals and Brian Elliott was strong in net to lead St. Louis over Philadelphia.
The Blues won their second game in two nights, after beating Carolina in overtime at home on Friday. They didn't arrive in their Philadelphia hotel until after 3 a.m. and skipped the morning skate.
Carlo Colaiacovo scored his first of the season in the second period and Matt D'Agostini pushed the lead to 4-2 in the third for the Blues, who hardly looked fatigued after OT and a long night of travel. They pounced on the Flyers, and Huskins scored only 1:48 into the game.
Ilya Bryzgalov had his second straight off game in net for the Flyers. After allowing five goals in a loss to Washington, Bryzgalov allowed two on the first eight shots.
Danny Briere and Matt Carle scored for the Flyers.
Kings 1, Stars 0
LOS ANGELES (AP) - Jonathan Quick became the first Los Angeles goalie to record three consecutive shutouts and defenseman Jack Johnson scored with 4:58 left in a victory over Dallas.
Quick, who had three shutouts last December, joined Felix Potvin as the only Kings goalies with three shutouts in two months.
Coming off victories against St. Louis and Phoenix, Quick made 28 saves to help extend the Kings' winning streak to four and end Dallas' at five. The closest the Stars came to scoring was when Michael Ryder hit the crossbar with a wrist shot over Quick's left shoulder with 15:03 remaining.
Quick extended his scoreless streak to 188 minutes, 10 seconds - breaking the club mark of 185:55 by Rogie Vachon during the 1975-76 season.
Oilers 2, Rangers 0
EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) - Nikolai Khabibulin stopped 19 shots in his 44th NHL shutout, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had a goal and an assist as Edmonton beat the road-weary New York Rangers.
Corey Potter also scored for the Oilers, who snapped a two-game skid and improved to 3-2-2 after late collapses cost them the two previous games.
The Rangers (2-2-2) lost for the first time on their four-game swing to Western Canada. New York is playing its first seven games of the season on the road.
The Rangers got a scare when top goalie Henrik Lundqvist left the game in the third period. He was replaced by Martin Biron, who made three saves.
Avalanche 5, Blackhawks 4, SO
CHICAGO (AP) - Joakim Lindstrom scored the only goal in the shootout and Colorado won its sixth straight road game by beating Chicago.
Semyon Varlamov made 34 saves through overtime, then stopped Viktor Stalberg, Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane in the shootout to help Colorado (6-2) extend its record streak of road wins from the start of a season.
Avalanche rookie Gabriel Landeskog's second goal of the game with 1:48 left in the third period tied it at 4 and forced overtime. Paul Stastny and David Jones also scored in regulation for the Avalanche, who couldn't hold a two-goal lead after two periods.
Toews, Michael Frolik, Jamal Mayers and Marian Hossa had goals in regulation for the Blackhawks, who dropped the second game of a home-and-home set after winning in Denver on Thursday.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Martin St. Louis scored a nifty goal, Mathieu Garon earned his 20th NHL shutout, and Tampa Bay beat Buffalo.
St. Louis made several stick-handling moves on Ryan Miller after getting the puck while alone in the low slot, and lifted a shot over the goalie to make it 2-0 with 11:30 left. Victor Hedman added an empty-net goal, which St. Louis assisted on.
Garon made 21 saves to post his first shutout in 34 games, dating to Nov. 20, 2010, against San Jose. He is 2-8 against Buffalo.
Pavel Kubina also scored for the Lightning, who have won two in row following a five-game skid.
Sabres left wing Thomas Vanek had his season-opening, six-game point streak snapped.
Panthers 4, Islanders 2
SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) - Tim Kennedy scored the go-ahead goal early in the third period and Jacob Markstrom earned his first NHL victory in relief of Jose Theodore to lift Florida past the New York Islanders.
Florida's victory came hours after the Panthers traded left wing David Booth, center Steve Reinprecht and a third-round pick in 2013 to the Vancouver Canucks for veteran forwards Mikael Samuelsson and Marco Sturm.
Kris Versteeg and Matt Bradley also scored for the Panthers. Shawn Matthias added an empty-net goal with 24 seconds left, immediately after leaving the penalty box.
Mark Streit and John Tavares scored for New York, and Evgeni Nabokov made 31 saves.
Markstrom stopped 18 shots after replacing Theodore during the first minute of in the third period when the game was tied 2-2.
Maple Leafs 5, Canadiens 4, OT
MONTREAL (AP) - Mikhail Grabovski scored 1:23 into overtime to give Toronto a win over Montreal.
Grabovski took John-Michael Liles' pass at the side of the Montreal net and turned around to fire a shot past Carey Price for the winner.
Nikolai Kulemin drew Toronto even for the third time at 13:07 of the third, tying it at 4 when he put away a loose puck in the Montreal crease on a goal that was originally credited to Grabovski.
Phil Kessel got his eighth goal of the season, and David Steckel and Dion Phaneuf scored power-play goals for the Maple Leafs, who trailed 1-0, 2-1 and 4-3.
Michael Cammalleri and Travis Moen scored earlier in the third for the Canadiens, who have lost five in a row.
Moen scored twice in the game, including a short-handed goal 1:51 in to give Montreal a 1-0 lead. Andrei Kostitsyn beat Jonas Gustavsson on the first shot the Toronto backup faced after taking over from starter James Reimer to begin the second.
Canucks 3, Wild 2, OT
VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) - Sami Salo scored on a power play at 4:39 of overtime to lift Vancouver over Minnesota.
With Dany Heatley in the penalty box for slashing Ryan Kesler's stick in half, Salo overpowered Niklas Backstrom with a hard slap shot over the glove.
Kyle Brodziak put Minnesota ahead with 1:49 left in the second period, but Jannik Hansen tied it with a nifty deflection 2:06 into the third.
Daniel Sedin also scored as Vancouver extended its home winning streak over the Wild to eight games. Backup Cory Schneider, making his third start of the season, finished with 21 saves for the Canucks, who posted consecutive wins for the first time this season.
Devin Setoguchi also scored, and Backstrom made 29 saves for Minnesota.
Jets 5, Hurricanes 3
WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) - Andrew Ladd scored and Nik Antropov added a pair of assists to lead Winnipeg over Carolina.
The Jets got off to a brutal start in front of another sold-out crowd, giving up two goals in the first seven minutes.
But a pair of power-play goals in the first period and three quick goals in the second sparked the Jets (2-4-1) to their second victory after relocating from Atlanta.
The Hurricanes (3-3-2) got their early goals on scrambles right in front of Winnipeg goalie Ondrej Pavelec by Jussi Jokinen and Jeff Skinner. Jets coach Claude Noel wasted no time, replacing his starter with backup goalie Chris Mason.
Senators 4, Blue Jackets 3
OTTAWA (AP) - Milan Michalek scored with 4.7 seconds remaining and Ottawa won consecutive games for the first time this season by beating Columbus.
Filip Kuba, Zack Smith and Jason Spezza also scored for the Senators (3-5). Craig Anderson faced 21 shots.
Aaron Johnson, Kris Russell and Rick Nash scored for Columbus (0-7-1). Steve Mason stopped 23 shots.
The Blue Jackets, who scored more than two goals for the first time this season, are off to their worst start in franchise history and are last in the NHL with just one point. They are the league's only winless team.
Predators 2, Flames 0
CALGARY, Alberta (AP) - Pekka Rinne made 33 saves for his first shutout of the season and 21st in the NHL as Nashville beat Calgary.
Niclas Bergfors and Sergei Kostitsyn for the Predators (3-3-1), who snapped a four-game losing streak. Miikka Kiprusoff made 12 saves for Calgary (2-4-1).
Bergfors opened the scoring 2:34 into the second period and Kostitsyn doubled the lead on a tap-in with 5:24 left in the third.
