SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — A southwestern Missouri man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 10-year-old boy.
KOLR-TV reports (http://bit.ly/rh3JZi) that 28-year-old Michael Crites won't be eligible for parole until 18 months before his prison term ends.
Crites, of Springfield, was convicted by a judge in August of kidnapping, forcible sodomy and enticement of a child. He was sentenced Friday.
The crime happened in 2009. Prosecutors said the boy was playing with friends near Jordan Creek west of Springfield when Crites took him down a trail and assaulted him.
Crites was often at the popular swimming spot but was a stranger to the boy.
