Immaculate Conception wins $50,000 in contest

U.S. Cellular associates stopped by Immaculate Conception School Friday in Jefferson with a surprise announcement the school was named a 2011 Champion in the company's Calling All Communities campaign.

The award comes with a $50,000 prize.

Immaculate Conception is the second Missouri school to become a Calling All Communities champion. St. Francis Xavier in Taos won $100,000 in 2010.

"U.S. Cellular's Calling All Communities program is appropriately named; it took an entire community coming together to help our school win," said Immaculate Conception School Principal Jill Struemph. "There is no way we could have accomplished this without the help of the parents, community and parishioners."

Struemph confirmed Immaculate Conception plans to use the $50,000 for technology enhancements.

"The technology in our school needs beefing up," she said. "We need new computers for the school."
