It's been almost two months since MoDOT closed a portion of Missouri 179 in Jefferson
City for construction work, and the department is now ready to open the
roadway almost two weeks ahead of schedule.
Emery Sapp and Sons, Inc., contractor for MoDOT, will open 179
between Route C and Edgewood Drive around 11 a.m. on Monday,
weather permitting.
179 closed on Aug. 29 as part of construction for a new diamond
interchange project where a new St. Mary's Health Center will be built. Crews removed a portion of the existing highway so
they could excavate for a new roadway that will run underneath 179.
Motorists on 179 will now drive on a new bridge over what will become
Mission Drive, which will lead to the new St. Mary's.
Construction continues at the interchange and motorists can expect
periodic lane closures on 179.
The $7.4
million project is scheduled for completion in summer 2012.
