Two charged with kidnapping JC child April 18, 2014

Your Opinion: Welcome visiting football fans, parents

Dear Editor:

Concerning the treatment of visiting football fans and parents, I had heard Jefferson City treated visitors poorly. I figured it was rumor. But I decided to see for myself. I sat with the Rockhurst fans/parents at the Oct. 7 game.

When entering the stadium area visitors are greeted by two ancient, non-illuminated port-a-potties. Their next discovery is they won’t be able to see the score board. If a visitor sits in the first six bleacher rows he/she can only see the backs of the visitor’s players who are standing along the side lines; the spectators cannot see the playing field from these lower seats.

Visitors wanting to use the good restroom or get a snack must take a hike past the J.C. students who hurl insults such as “Hey, get your sorry butt across the field where it belongs.” (I cleaned up this quote) The punks are yelling such insults at the mothers of the Rockhurst players (the moms were wearing team jackets.) As the game started a Jefferson City employee came by the visitor stands, stopped every 15 yards and gave this speech: “If you want to visit the restroom or the snack bar go the longer way around so you don’t have to go past the students. They’re a bit rowdy tonight.”

If someone has complaints they should propose solutions, here goes:

• Start with a big Welcome Visitors banner right inside the gate.

• Have a team of students (perhaps Student Council members) welcome the visitors, hand them programs and perhaps some welcoming memento.

• Charge no admission to parents of visiting players.

• Acquire new port-a-potties. Have science class students design and install solar powered lights and exhaust fan, or build a small restroom with flush toilets.

• Expel rowdy students.

• Obtain an aerial easement over Stadium Boulevard allowing additional seating to be cantilevered up and over part of Stadium.

• Scoreboard — it thinking heads get together I am quite certain a solution can be found.

Double congratulations to the Jefferson City football team; you played an excellent game.
