Your Opinion: Responses to Torres on living in Jefferson City #1

Dear Editor:

Ms. Torres, what sour grapes. It is interesting you have the opinion you share in your Oct. 13 letter. Your comments, I believe, have more to say about a sizeable portion of your generation rather than the perceived problems you write about.

I have, because of my career choice, lived in a major metropolitan area (outside Missouri) for almost 30 years. I look forward and enjoy coming back to Jefferson City at least once per year to visit family and friends. It is refreshing to pass someone on the street, say hello, and get a hello back.

Furthermore, I do not share your thoughts on restaurants and entertainment choices. Jefferson City has comparable, quality choices with what I now have available. Many activities in a larger city are available only because of the larger population density. If you now live in “a major metro city” I am sure you will find numerous examples of what you called a “horrible ghetto mall.” I believe your thoughts have more to do with expectations and personal attitude rather than what’s available.

It would be interesting to get your opinion in five years about how satisfied you are to be living in “a major metro city” versus where you were “born and raised” in the “boring, lifeless town” of Jefferson City.

Who knows, you might want to move back and open your own nightclub.
