ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Pascal Dupuis had a short-handed goal and an assist, James Neal scored for the sixth time this season and the depleted Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Minnesota Wild 4-2 on Tuesday night.
Chris Kunitz and Jordan Staal also got goals and Matt Cooke had two assists for the Penguins, who were winless in their previous three games. They have already played eight times in the first 13 days of the season, improving to 4-2-2.
Cal Clutterbuck had a short-handed goal and Guillaume Latendresse scored for the first time in almost an entire calendar year, but the Wild didn't do much against backup goalie Brent Johnson and fell to 2-2-2. Their four-game winning streak against the Penguins ended.
Capitals 3, Panthers 0
WASHINGTON (AP) - Tomas Vokoun blanked his former team with a 20-save performance, and Washington beat Florida to improve to 5-0, the best start in franchise history.
Marcus Johansson, Alexander Semin and Jason Chimera scored for the Capitals, who led 1-0 heading into the third period.
Washington and Detroit are the only NHL teams to win all their games thus far. The Capitals' four-game winning streak at home to start the season is also a club record.
Vokoun was rarely tested, but he couldn't afford a slip-up in a tightly played defensive struggle. It was the 45th NHL shutout for the 35-year-old goalie, who played the previous four seasons with Florida. He left for the Capitals after failing to reach a contract agreement with the Panthers over the summer.
Sabres 3, Canadiens 1
MONTREAL (AP) - Thomas Vanek scored just before the end of the second period and Ryan Miller made 40 saves to lead Buffalo over Montreal.
Vanek held up before driving a slap shot past goalie Carey Price from low in the left circle with 2.8 seconds remaining in the period, finishing off a passing play with Jason Pominville and Marc-Andre Gragnani.
Jordan Leopold scored earlier in the second and Christian Ehrhoff put his first Buffalo goal into an empty net with 28.3 seconds left as the Sabres (4-1) won their second in a row on the road.
Raphael Diaz scored his first NHL goal for Montreal (1-3-1), which held a 41-23 shots advantage but completed an 0-2-1 homestand.
Price stopped 20 shots in his fifth straight start.
Hurricanes 4, Bruins 1
BOSTON (AP) - Cam Ward stopped 33 shots, and Carolina defenseman Joni Pitkanen had a goal and two assists to lead the Hurricanes to their second win over the Boston Bruins in a week.
Tuomo Ruutu, Anthony Stewart and Eric Staal had the other goals for Carolina, which also beat the defending Stanley Cup champions 3-2 at home last Wednesday.
Rich Peverley had a power-play goal for the Bruins, who had a number of seemingly senseless penalties and dropped their third in four home games. Boston was whistled for 11 penalties in the second and third periods, many during scrums. The Hurricanes took five penalties during the last two periods.
Rangers 4, Canucks 0
VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) - Henrik Lundqvist made 40 saves, and New York broke open a scoreless game with four goals in the third period to beat Vancouver for its first victory of the season.
Mike Rupp started the scoring 2:22 into in the third, and Lundqvist did the rest just as he did in the first two periods in keeping the Rangers in the game.
Ryan McDonagh and Brian Boyle scored 93 seconds apart midway through the final frame, and Marian Gaborik added the last goal with 2:21 left as the injury-depleted and road-weary Rangers snapped out of a 0-1-2 start despite being outshot 40-19.
Kings 5, Blues 0
LOS ANGELES (AP) - Simon Gagne had two goals and an assist in his home debut with the Kings, and Jonathan Quick made 27 saves for his 15th shutout in Los Angeles' victory over St. Louis.
Anze Kopitar, Jarret Stoll and captain Dustin Brown each had a goal and an assist as the Kings finally returned home from a two-week, two-continent road trip, kicking off a season of high expectations with a blowout win.
Quick was phenomenal in his 99th career victory, making several spectacular saves while remaining unbeaten in regulation this season.
Jaroslav Halak allowed four goals on 18 shots before getting pulled in the opening minute of the third period for the Blues, who wrapped up a four-game road trip with three losses.
Blackhawks 5, Coyotes 2
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Dave Bolland scored one third-period goal and had an assist on the other to help Chicago pull away to a victory over Phoenix.
Bolland's steal and short-handed goal gave Chicago a 4-2 lead 2:27 into the third period. His assist helped set up Bryan Bickell's score that made it 5-2 6 1/2 minutes later as the Blackhawks outshot Phoenix 35-16.
Marian Hossa, back after missing a game with an upper-body injury, scored Chicago's first goal when his team had a two-man advantage in the first period.
Jonathan Toews, Jamal Mayers and Bryan Bickell also scored for Chicago.
Taylor Pyatt and Ray Whitney scored for Phoenix.
Flames 2, Oilers 1
CALGARY, Alberta (AP) - Jay Bouwmeester and Alex Tanguay scored late in the third period, and Calgary rallied for a victory over Edmonton.
For the game's first 54 minutes, it appeared that Tom Gilbert's first-period goal would stand up as the winner.
Calgary pulled even after a spirited rush into the Oilers end by Lee Stempniak eventually resulted in the puck landing on the stick of Bouwmeester, who beat screened goalie Devan Dubnyk with a wrist shot at 14:03.
The Flames then grabbed the lead 89 seconds later.
Cory Sarich's shot from the blue line into a crowd bounced to the side of the net where Tanguay knocked in his first goal of the season.
Miikka Kiprusoff finished with 24 saves to improve to 2-2. He made a huge stop at the end of the game, sprawling to deny Anton Lander with his arm at the side of the net.
Flyers 7, Senators 2
OTTAWA (AP) - Philadelphia rookie Matt Read had a goal and two assists in the opening 20 minutes and the Flyers built a four-goal lead and went on to beat the Senators.
The four-goal outburst was enough for Senators coach Paul MacLean to make a goaltending switch to start the second period as Craig Anderson came on in relief of Alex Auld, who faced just 10 shots. Anderson made 17 saves but surrendered three goals late in the third period.
Wayne Simmonds, Claude Giroux and Max Talbot also scored for the Flyers (4-0-1) in the first period. James van Riemsdyk, Sean Couturier and Harrison Zolnierczyk scored in the final 5 minutes of the third period.
Stars 3, Blue Jackets 2
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Jamie Benn had a goal and an assist and Dallas hung on for its fourth straight win.
Steve Ott and Michael Ryder also scored for the Stars who seemed in complete control until Kris Russell pulled Columbus within one with just under three minutes remaining.
Vinny Prospal nearly tied it in the final seconds, redirecting the puck slowly past the goal post with goalie Kari Lehtonen, who finished with 38 saves, leaning the other way.
