Solar energy more likely than wind at Callaway plant

Solar energy is more likely to be developed at the site of the Callaway nuclear facility than wind turbines, an Ameren Missouri official said Tuesday.

Bill Barbieri, Ameren Missouri’s manager of renewable energy, said he and other officials intend to conduct more research on possible development of wind and solar power generation at the Callaway County plant, now renamed the Callaway Energy Center.

As part of its push for renewable energy, Barbieri said Ameren Missouri is considering possible use of all of its power plants for development of renewable energy such as wind or solar.

Every time I was in Missouri I never noticed a very good amount of wind, so I would guess that solar energy would be the best way to go, as I myself have had solar energy myself. The biggest cost in solar is the storage batteries and batteries only last at best 5 years. Unless you use the 48 volt batteries that is used in forklifts. They last far longer then the recommended batteries and forklift batteries are rebuild able. It takes a lot of solar cell panels to keep a charge on one of those forklift batteries, but the forklift battery holds quit a charge and AMPS which lasts longer than the tall batterires sold with solar systems and will last much longer.
