Mo. park gets new hiking, mountain biking trail

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - A state park in central Missouri has a new path for hikers and mountain bikers.

The 2.75-mile Kelley Branch Mountain Bike Trail opened this month at Finger Lakes State Park in Boone County. The Columbia Missourian reports that construction began two years ago.

Katy Trail coordinator Dawn Fredrickson says that to preserve the land, the path was cut using hand tools rather than machinery.

Hiking the one-way loop takes about two hours. It features steep hills 20 to 30 feet high.

The trail begins in the picnic area in the southwest sector of the park. One portion of it runs along the Kelley Branch stream.
