Cape Girardeau may weigh deer hunt

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) - The deer population is getting out of hand in Cape Girardeau, and the city council is considering the possibility of an urban deer hunt.

Nothing has been proposed yet, but city councilman John Voss told the Southeast Missourian that he is looking into a controlled bow hunt to thin the herd that is increasingly becoming a nuisance for homeowners and a threat to motorists.

Urban deer hunting is allowed in St. Louis, Kansas City, Springfield, Columbia and Jefferson City. During Missouri's urban deer season two weekends ago, 570 deer were killed.
