St. Elizabeth rolls to quarterfinal win

ST. ELIZABETH, Mo. — After striking out the final batter, St. Elizabeth’s Erin Struemph was mobbed by a euphoric throng of teammates. The junior pitcher had just sent the Lady Hornets to the softball Final Four for the first time since 2002.

Struemph struck out 15 of the 21 batters she faced Saturday afternoon in St. Elizabeth’s 12-1 quarterfinal victory over Naylor.

“About everything (was working for Struemph) from what I saw,” St. Elizabeth coach Peggy Wieberg said. “She’s got a beautiful rise ball and her fastball is so hard to hit.”
