Akin raises more than $280,000 for Mo. Senate race

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Missouri Republican Congressman Todd Akin says he raised more than $280,000 for his U.S. Senate campaign from July through September.

Akin's campaign released its third-quarter finance report Friday. The report shows about $221,000 in spending during the period and more than $1.2 million in the bank at the end of September.

Akin is one of three Republicans seeking the nomination to run next year against Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill, who reported raising $1.2 million in the third quarter.

The other GOP candidates are former state Treasurer Sarah Steelman and businessman John Brunner.
