Kinder raises over $400K for Mo. governor's race

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Republican Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder has raised more than $400,000 in the past few months for a potential challenge to Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon.

Campaign finance figures released Saturday show Kinder with nearly $1.6 million in his campaign account as of Sept. 30.

Kinder campaign advisor Rich Chrismer describes the past quarter's fundraising as robust and says Kinder is ready to make a formal announcement about his gubernatorial candidacy next month.

Kinder had been expected to announce his gubernatorial candidacy shortly after Labor Day, but he delayed that after media reports that he frequented an Illinois strip club while serving as a state senator in 1990s.

The Democratic Nixon also must report his campaign finance figures by Monday.
